Why I Write Romance (and Why I Keep Coming Back to It)
19 Mar, 2025
I’ve often been asked, “Why romance?” With all the genres out there—thrillers, fantasy, historical fiction—what is it about romance that keeps pulling me back? The answer is simple: love stories are the heart of human experience.
Romance isn’t just about swoon-worthy moments or grand gestures. It’s about connection, about finding someone who sees you for who you are and still chooses you. It’s about longing, heartbreak, joy, and the little moments that make life worth living.
When I write romance, I get to explore different facets of love—the kind that burns bright and fast, the kind that grows slowly over time, and the kind that sneaks up on you when you least expect it. I get to create characters who struggle, who fall, who learn, and who, ultimately, find their way to love in a way that feels real.
But I also love subverting tropes. Not every romance has to be about a billionaire and a small-town girl. Not every love story needs a third-act breakup to be compelling. Writing romance gives me the freedom to explore relationships in all their messy, beautiful, complicated forms.
So, tell me—what’s your favourite romance trope? And what’s one you wish we’d see less of? Drop a comment below! ❤️
If you love the stories and the universes I've created, consider supporting me. I live with two amazing cattos in Mumbai and write for a living. It'll help me have more time to spend on the kind of writing I love doing & you'll get more stories out of me!
